Biography
Vincenzo Maraio serves as the Councillor for Tourism, Territory Promotion, Digital Transition of Regione Campania, a position he assumed on December 31, 2025. In this capacity, he is instrumental in shaping regional strategies that integrate digital innovation with the development of Campania's tourism sector and broader territorial promotion. His mandate includes a focus on leveraging advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence, to enhance competitiveness and streamline public services.[3]
Prior to his current role, Maraio built a substantial career in public administration and politics. He has been the National Secretary of the Italian Socialist Party (PSI) since March 31, 2019.[5] His experience in regional governance includes serving as a Regional Councillor of Campania from 2015 to 2020, where he was part of the Presidency Office of the Regional Council and a member of the Budget Commission.[5]
Maraio's engagement with tourism and digital transformation extends to his earlier tenure as a Councillor for Tourism, Cultural Heritage, and Tourist Port Facilities for the Municipality of Salerno from 2006 to 2015.[5] During this period, he contributed to the international relaunch of Salerno, demonstrating a consistent focus on the strategic importance of tourism for regional development.[5] He is also an attorney, having earned his law degree from the University of Salerno in 2001.[5]
His recent public statements underscore a commitment to the digital transition and the application of AI, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the tourism industry in Campania.[3] Maraio has highlighted initiatives such as the establishment of a "Quantum Valley" at the University of Salerno, aimed at fostering research and innovation in quantum technologies.[3] He also oversaw the launch of a new institutional portal for Regione Campania, emphasizing innovation, transparency, and the provision of digital services to citizens and businesses.[4]
