Biography
Cosimo Accoto is a philosopher of new engineering and a Research Affiliate at MIT Connection Science in Boston, where his work explores the techno-cultural implications of advanced digital technologies. His research focuses on the intersection of philosophy and engineering, examining areas such as software theory, sensor society, data science, and artificial intelligence.[1]
Accoto also serves as an Adjunct Professor at the Università degli Studi di Modena e Reggio Emilia (UNIMORE). His academic and research interests encompass the philosophy of code and programming, robotic automation, theories of artificial intelligence, blockchain technology, quantum computing, and the philosophy of extended and immersive realities. He is recognized for designing and implementing "philtech labs," which are strategic laboratories dedicated to the philosophy of technology and engineering for various institutions and organizations. He is the author of an acclaimed philosophical trilogy on digital civilization, which includes *Il mondo dato.[2] Cinque brevi lezioni di filosofia digitale* (2017), translated into English as *In Data Time and Tide* (Bocconi University Press 2018), *Il mondo ex machina. Cinque brevi lezioni di filosofia dell'automazione* (2019), and *Il mondo in sintesi* (2022). His most recent work, *Il Pianeta Latente.[1] Provocazioni della tecnica, innovazioni della cultura*, was published in 2024. Accoto's articles have appeared in publications such as Harvard Business Review Italy, *Economia & Management* (SDA Bocconi School of Management), and MIT Sloan Management Review Italia.[2] Prior to his academic and philosophical pursuits, Accoto developed a professional career in the data and analytics industry, including roles at Nielsen and Comscore, and in strategic management consultancy, notably as a Partner & VP Innovation at OpenKnowledge (BIP Group).[1] He currently acts as an AI strategic advisor and corporate board advisor, contributing to discussions on digital transformation and the future of technology.[1]
