Amleto Picerno Ceraso

Amleto Picerno Ceraso is an architect specializing in computational design and digital fabrication. After graduating from Sapienza University of Rome, he earned a Master's in Digital Architecture from INARCH and a Master's Degree in Advanced Architecture from IAAC (Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia) in Barcelona, studying under pioneers such as Vicente Guallart. He currently holds a contract professorship in Computational Design at the Department of Architecture (DiArc) of the University of Naples Federico II. He is co-founder and scientific director of Medaarch, a multidisciplinary design and research firm active at the intersection of architecture, engineering, and digital technologies. Under his direction, Medaarch operates as a center of excellence engaged in Research and Development (R&D) projects on sustainable materials (bioplastics and bio-fabrication) and new architectural solutions based on Industry 4.0 processes. He also coordinates prestigious European training projects, such as the Erasmus+ DigiCraft5.0 program, aimed at investigating the impact of new technologies on urban regeneration, cities, and the world of work. Through Mediterranea Design Studio, an innovative startup since 2025, Picerno Ceraso tests a model of cultural and productive hybridization that reconciles technological acceleration with the "Mediterranean measure." Using additive manufacturing and computational thinking not as themes, but as tools to interrogate matter, he developed the Materiae line, a collection of bio-based PLA printed pieces presented in Paris at Maison&Object. His vision promotes a "gentle design," capable of transforming digital code into a warm, human, and territorial grammar, where furnishings become focal points that slow down the pace of use and reorganize perception through voluptuous and tactile forms. Since 2018, he has promoted and directed the CAD (Centro per l’Artigianato Digitale) in Cava de’ Tirreni, the first Italian hub dedicated to incubating manufacturing businesses through the use of advanced technologies and robotics, born from the urban regeneration of a former market. Formerly director of the Digital Fabrication Laboratory at Città della Scienza and the D.RE.A.M. Academy, he is a member of the ADI scientific committee for digital and curator of the "Internal Areas" section for La Biennale dello Stretto 24. Holder of patents for "Comunicative architectural facades," he has received prestigious awards including the IN/Arch National Award 2018, the Well Tech Smart City Award (2014), and an award at the Smart City World Congress Expo in Barcelona. His works have been studied as case histories in the Innovative Marketing course at Bocconi University. A communications expert and author of numerous research papers and articles, he won an award at the Giffoni Film Festival in 2005 for the best innovative TV format. Passionate about the future, he has also worked as an author for various programs on Rai Tre and Italia 1.
