Angelo Tofalo

Biography

Angelo Tofalo is an Italian engineer and former Undersecretary of State for Defence, currently serving as the CEO of AT Agency, a strategic consulting firm specializing in defence, intelligence, security, and cybersecurity. He holds a degree in Civil Engineering and a specialization in Geotechnical and Hydraulic Engineering from the University of Salerno. In 2016, he earned a second-level Master's degree in "Intelligence and Security" from Link Campus University, followed by a Postgraduate Course in "B&C Tech Law: European and International Perspectives" at LUISS Guido Carli University in 2022. During his political career, Tofalo was a Deputy of the Republic for two legislatures and a member of the Parliamentary Committee for the Security of the Republic (COPASIR). From 2018 to 2021, he served as Undersecretary of State for Defence in the Conte I and II Governments, where he was notably delegated responsibility for cybersecurity within the Ministry of Defence. In this capacity, he was instrumental in the creation of the Comando per le Operazioni in Rete (C.O.R.), Italy's Cyber Command, and the Comando per le Operazioni Spaziali (C.O.S.), the Space Operations Command. He also participated in conferences aimed at strengthening international cooperation in cybersecurity, such as one organized by the Italian Embassy in Washington in 2019. Beyond his governmental roles, Mr. Tofalo has contributed to the discourse on security and intelligence. He is the co-founder of "Intelligenza Collettiva," a project dedicated to disseminating security culture. He is also the Scientific Director of CISINT (Italian Centre for Strategy and Intelligence) and the Cyber Security Italy Foundation. Additionally, he is a member of the Board of Directors of Clusit, the Italian Association for Information Security, and serves on the Executive Committee of the National Observatory for the Protection of the Sea as a delegate for information and cybersecurity. His professional experience includes working on strategic projects in telecommunications, security, and video surveillance, and he contributed to the design of the TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) system in Italy.
